The Deputy Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Rashid Tanko-Computer, has raised allegations that the ruling government is using fake news to attack NDC's presidential candidate, John Mahama.
According to him, there have been false allegations circulating on social media about the NDC's presidential candidate, which he claims allegedly originated from the Flagstaff House.
He made these statements while speaking on JoyNews' Newsfile on Saturday, November 16.
“We have been tracking them down, all these things allegedly coming from the Flagstaff house, because they have desk officers who are into…in fact, their role is social media. So, you go their timelines on social media, Facebook, X and you will see the kind of post they put out there daily,” he said.
Mr. Tanko revealed that, on numerous occasions, the spokesperson for the NDC's presidential candidate, Joyce Bawa, had written to both the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Cyber Security Authority regarding the fake news about their candidate.
He claimed that, despite urging the swift intervention of the security agencies, no action had been taken.
"I can give you copious examples of letters we have written to the CID for them to arrest and prosecute those fake guys which they trace down some of them officers at the Flagstaff House,” he added.
