The Commissioner on Human Rights and Administrative Justice Ms Anna Bossman has condemned in no uncertain terms treatment meted out to commercial drivers by military personnel at the 37 Military Hospital for committing various traffic offences.
“It is really preposterous that something like that should happen. If this story is true it is absolutely wrong.”
According to the Commissioner the said treatment amounted to an affront to human dignity.
Speaking to Joy News Ms Anna Bossman said the treatment cannot be justified under a democratic dispensation, adding that sanctions to various offences have to be taken by the appropriate authority.
The behaviour by the military she insisted amount to the lack of discipline in our society which cannot be condoned.
She added that while the treatment violated the fundamental human rights with the drivers, it also had health implications.
“What is this we are hearing about fondling and kissing of dead bodies, it also has health implications.”
This action should be condemned in no uncertain terms, she added.
The Commissioner's criticism comes in the wake of reports that commercial drivers were subjected to the cleaning, kissing and fondling of dead bodies at the 37 Military Hospital, as punishment for committing various traffic offences .
