The Gyasehene of Asankrangwa Traditional Area, Nana Adubuahene, has appealed to the government to intensify its operation to flush out foreigners, especially Chinese, mining illegally in the Tano River.
The Chief said the illegal miners, mostly Chinese, were arrested by the Special Ministerial Taskforce last year and were repatriated but they had re-surfaced to continue with the operation.
Nana Adubuahene told the GNA at Samreboi that the Chinese were spotted at Sefwi Akura in the Amenfi West District prospecting for gold in Tano River and are heavily polluting the only source of water in the area.
Mr. Thomas Asaase Gyimah, Deputy Human Resource Manager of Samartex, said pollution of the River had affected water filtration system undertaken by the company for the people of Samreboi and its surrounding communities.
“This had made processing of water from the river expensive,” he said.
