Otumfuo Baidoe Bonso XVI, Omanhene of the Ahanta Traditional Area, on Sunday called on chiefs to make development a topmost priority in their communities.
He made the call when Egya Kwamena II, Chief of Apremdo, swore an oath of allegiance to him at Busua following his election to succeed the late Nana Nyankakrom II.
Otumfuo Bonso said it was important that chiefs brought developments in their areas of jurisdiction in order to improve the living standards of their people.
He asked Egya Kwamena to use funds earmarked for their intended purpose saying stool money belonged to the royal family.
Otumfuo Bonso appealed to kingmakers to desist from causing disputes after installing chiefs approved by them.
He said rather, kingmakers should co-operate with chiefs to develop their communities.
Otumfuo Bonso praised the Ahanta Traditional Council for taken steps to reduce chieftaincy disputes in the area to pave way for development.
He said the Council has also initiated moves to prevent indiscriminate sale of lands in the area because of the oil discovery at the Cape Three Point, in the Western Region.
Otumfuo Bonso appealed that lands in the area should be sold for industrial and development concerns.
He further advised Egya Kwamena against misuse of properties and funds of the royal family and of the Apremdo community to prevent conflict.
Egya Kwamena pledged to work in harmony with the royal family and the people to accelerate development especially in the area of education.
The 26-year old chief, known in private life as William Eghan, is an Account’s student at the Takoradi Polytechnic.
