A one-day capacity building workshop for 35 participants drawn from the Adaklu Traditional Area in the Adaklu Anyigbe District has been held at Ho.
The workshop was organized and financed by the Community Based Rural Development Project
(CBRDP), a World Bank sponsored Project under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural
Participants included chiefs, assembly members, councillors, unit committee members, opinion leaders and representatives of youth and women's groups.
Topics treated were management skills, monitoring and evaluation of projects, financial management and record keeping.
Mr. Felix Azah, a training officer of the Humanitarian Youth International, an Accra based Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) and a facilitator at the workshop said it was the last in a series of a 16-day programme.
He said it was to build the capacity of participants to participate, plan, manage and monitor their community based projects.
Mr. Azah said monitoring of community-based projects was very essential and expressed his worry about the lukewarm attitude of some opinion leaders towards development projects, which were designed to reduce poverty and enhance living standards in their areas.
Mr. Maxwell Gbakah, Chairman of the Adaklu Area Council said most areas were benefiting from the CBRDP programme and appealed to the people of Adaklu to embrace it for the speedy development of the area.
He asked the participants to be agents of peace and change in their respective communities in the area.
The participants expressed their worry about some District Chief Executives hijacking Project vehicles for their personal use and appealed for the reversal of such negative attitudes, which had stalled many such projects.
