Two institutions on Monday presented cheques and relief items worth GH¢22,000 (¢220 million) to the Northern Regional Coordinating Council (NRCC) for distribution to persons displaced by recent floods that hit the Northern Region.
The institutions are the Stanbic Bank, which presented a cheque for GH¢10,000 (¢100 million) and the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL) also presented a cheque for GH¢3,000 (¢30 million) and other relief items worth GH¢9,000 (¢90 million).
The relief items the GCGL presented included 204 bags of rice, 300 bags of maize, 30 pieces of wax prints, 50 cartons of edible oil, 30 boxes of meat and some used clothing worth 90 million cedis.
A customer of the Stanbic Bank, Mancell Ghana Limited also through the bank presented 200 bags of rice and 25 bags of sugar as contribution to the flood victims.
Mr. Emmanuel Adu Mantey, chairman of the Board of Directors, Stanbic Bank, who presented the Bank's cheque to the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris in Tamale on Monday, said the Bank was committed to restoring the affected persons’ hope.
Mr. Adu Mantey commended government for setting the pace of development in the Metropolis saying, "Tamale has seen a lot of improved road infrastructure" and urged the Minister and the Metropolitan Assembly to continue with their development agenda.
Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Awal, Managing Director of the GCGL, who also presented the cheque for 30 million cedis on behalf of his outfit assured the region of Graphic's preparedness to collaborate with all sectors of society for development.
Alhaji Mustapha Ali Idris, Northern Regional Minister commended Mr. Awal and Mr. Ibrahim Andani, Managing Director of Stanbic Bank, all sons of Dagbon for occupying such enviable offices and appealed to them to use their influence to lure investors into the region.
Alhaji Idris then presented the cheques and the relief items to officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and assured the affected persons of fair and equitable distribution.
