President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his campaign in the 2016 general elections, promised Ghanaians that if voted into power, he would roll out a programme that would give every constituency one million dollars to facilitate the rapid development of the constituencies.

Then, on the 30th of August, 2016, the then Vice presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party announced a one million dollar for each constituency policy aimed at alleviating poverty in the country. He said that the policy was under the infrastructure for poverty eradication at a total cost of $1.6 billion. With this amount, the NPP government intended to invest in pro-poor policy in villages across the country.

This one was coming just after they put the people into a deceptive mood of building oone-village-one-dam God being so good, the people of Ghana gave them the mandate and after over enjoying and becoming intoxicated with power, the Vice President began to deny the said promise.

At a forum held in UK, the vice President of Ghana was asked about numerous promises which he and his party made during the 2016 election campaign. In fact, the Vice President of Ghana, Mahamadu Bawumia was referred to One million dollars per constituency and he boldly declined it.

According to him, they never promised $1million per each constituency, it was just a mere thought.

President Akufo-Addo, and his Vice President, Dr. Bawumia have never been consistent and candid with Ghanaians with their promises either because they took the intelligence of many poor Ghanaians for granted or they believe Ghanaians are fools.

In 1st October, 2018, Ms Mavis Hawa Koomson, Minister for Special Development Initiatives, had said that Government was impacting lives under the Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP) to improve livelihoods across the country.

She said under the audacious IPEP policy initiative, the President was delivering on his promise to reorient the national capital expenditure, to place focus on local constituency-specific needs to properly decentralize development.

According to the Minister, government had resolved to reallocate the equivalent of $275 million to provide infrastructural development in rural and deprived communities.

These confirms the deliberate political gimmicks Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP played with Ghanaians for votes, because according to the Minister's own assertions, government could not give the constituencies their money to take up their own development needs. Hence; the top down approach to providing projects for the constituencies. Even then, such projects they claimed to have done cannot be seen. One cannot  tell  how these projects were identified and feasibility studies conducted, and its environmental impact assessments on the people whom the projects were meant to benefit. They forget what they are referring to are real physical which can be seen on the ground if they exist.

The sad about these is that, I have looked and checked Trobu Constituency and not a single infrastructure project I have seen under such deceived promise of "Try me leader".

This has also called to question the competence of the  kind of Parliamentary representation Trobu has chosen over the years. It turned out, the Member of Parliament has no capacity to influence government policies in fovour of the constituents.

The President and his government has demonstrated lack of vision and direction for our country and allowing the country to sink.

In today's economy, there are many Ghanaians and households which are living below the International accepted poverty line of $2.15 per person per day with 3,386.08 people living in extreme poverty. These people are deprived of basic essential which makes life worthwhile. This, is not a challenge to Government. One would have thought, Government which promised heaven, will act in maturity to take bold initiatives in implementing poverty reduction strategies and policies with available scarce resources in order to alleviate the plights of the people. It has rather turned out to be vice - versa.

Government's economic policies has rather exacerbated the suffering of the masses. Resources are being siphon from the periphery and creating wealth for the small family at the centre. This trend of governance is worrying and very distasteful.

The One million US dollars could have made a positive change in the lives of the destitute who are looking for inexistent job opportunities just to make earns meat for themselves and their families if really our Government is a people centered. But we are confronted with a Government which takes opportunities of the many challenges to oppress the people.

While they told us there is no Government job and employment opportunities and went ahead to announce freeze on public sector employment, the  President has a plan of increasing  Presidential or Government machinery staff by 1,697 to 3, 681 on the poor tax payers. This is a fact contained in page 280 of 2023 budget. This same NPP Government under Nana Addo has considered building National Cathedral at a time when there is an announced austerity measures and made budgetary allocation of 80 million cedis to the construction of National Cathedral.

The poor Ghanaian labour who has toiled many years  and invested his pensions to secure stable financial future, not only for himself but for his offspring are now being given haircut on his investments. This by far, a policy aimed at exacerbating the living conditions of the masses. This inhuman treatment must not be accepted by labour front in the country.

If Government cannot provide what they promised us, then, they have no right to take from our sweat.

It is time to remind the President and his Government to fulfill what they promised Ghanaians. If they say the kitchen is hot, they must come out with sweat. The people deserves better.
