Akisi Ackah, the Director of Marketing at GMX Multimedia, has said that a change in government will not have any impact on their work on the newly-launched Ghanaian-owned music streaming platform, GMX.
She told Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM's Showbiz A-Z that they deal with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and will continue to do so even if the NPP-led government loses power.
“We are working through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. It’s our hope that we will continue our engagement with the ministry. And indeed we have approached GAPI, MUSIGA and GHAMRO.
These are apolitical agencies so then we can continue to work with them. It just so happens that the Vice President we have labeled Mr. Digital is very interested in digital initiatives so that is how come we’ve also leveraged the kind of innovation he also brings on to launching the digital project," she said.
Ghana Music Xperience (GMX), was launched in Accra at the De Icon Centre on October 30, 2024.
The platform owned by GMX Multimedia and designed by Omni Strategies, is being operated with support from the Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture.
Earlier, the Vice President of Ghana Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, had announced in a meeting with some creatives that government would be partnering a private enterprise to launch the App.
Present at the launch, Dr. Bawumia expressed his hope of helping boost music business in Ghana with the partnership.
The Vice President, who is also the Presidential Candidate of the NPP, had indicated during his meeting with the creatives on October 16, 2024 that the establishment of the streaming platform is one of the ways the NPP-led government addressing specific concerns of the entertainment industry.
While some have lauded the initiative, others have also described it as a campaign strategy to win Dr. Bawumia some votes from the creative community.
The Ghana Music Xperience will be operational from January 2025.
