Manchester United FC are on a five-game winning streak as they play SL Benfica for top spot in Group C,LIVE tonight on Joy Sports and Adom-TV on Multi-TV. Visiting boss Jorge Jesus says his side "have a plan" to win them the game. Speaking ahead of tonight's game, United boss Ferguson, commented on the rich European history both teams bring to bear on the fixture. "It's a big game, a game we recognize as a real European game given the history of Benfica and ourselves. There've been loads of great games between the sides that always stick in the memory, such as one we lost 2-1 over there [on 7 December 2005]. In the first match over there [this season] we did well and our possession was good. We deserved the [1-1] result except for maybe the last 15 minutes, when they had a few chances. It should be an open match, both teams want to win, but hopefully we can get the right result tomorrow." MANCHESTER UNITED TEAM NEWS Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to make some changes to his team for this fixture, as Nemanja Vidic's suspension is likely to see Rio Ferdinand partnering Chris Smalling in the heart of defence. Johnny Evans has been reported to have missed training, prompting speculation that he may have suffered a knock. Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney is also thought to have skipped training, which has raised a question mark concerning whether or not the forward will be involved in the tie. However, if fit, the striker should start. Phil Jones and Fabio should fight for the right-back spot, but the former could be selected due to his recent performances coupled with the praise he has received from both Sir Alex as well as England boss Fabio Capello. Visiting coach Jorge Jesus has hatched a plan to earn the win that would see Benfica finish top of Group C. "We know they are a strong team but we're very motivated by being in the Champions League: the players all want to play well. They're a very good team but we're also very strong opponents. A good result for us tomorrow would be a win and finishing in first place. Our minimum aim is to get through the group phase. United are playing at home and are the favourites, so we'll have to be very strong. I repeat, our best result is a win; we have a plan, and as long as the players follow that plan – in defence and attack – we can win the game." Jorge disagreed with the notion of the EPL being the best league in the World. To the wily coach, the technical and tactical qualities of leagues in Spain, Germany and Italy surpasses that in England. "A lot of people say that the Premier League is the best league in the world but I don't agree. Manchester United are different, though – a special case. That's why they've won so much; they've got different ideas, a different pedigree. They're also better technically this season and are keeping the ball better; in every game they have 60-70% possession which is very difficult." "The leagues in Spain, Germany and Italy are much stronger in terms of technical and tactical ability than in England, which in my opinion makes them much more difficult leagues. However, the fact that there are now so many foreign players and managers in England now means that the technical and tactical standard is improving." BENFICA TEAM NEWS Javier Saviola (left knee sprain) has not travelled to Manchester, with Enzo Peréz (right knee surgery) and Nemanja Matić (right thigh) also missing out. Ruben Amorim, Bruno Cesar and Nicolas Gaitan are fighting for positions on the flanks, while Oscar Cardozo should receive some support from either Pablo Aimar or Rodrigo. MATCH TRIVIA Manchester United have managed to emerge triumphant against Benfica in six of the last eight meetings between the two sides. The three-time European champions have scored eight goals in four group games. Only Barcelona, Chelsea and Real Madrid have managed to score more goals in their respective fixtures. Since 2002, United have only lost to Besiktas and AC Milan at Old Trafford. This means that they have been defeated only twice in 56 games on their own turf. Benfica managed to beat United back in 2005 in Lisbon, sending them out of the group stage. At the time, it was the first time in over a decade that the Old Trafford club had bowed out of the group stage of the competition. The Portuguese side have been defensively solid in the group stage, conceding only two goals. Marseille and Real Madrid are the only two sides to have shipped fewer. The Lisbon-based club are unbeaten in their last four outings away from home in the European competition. In total, they have gone eight games without suffering a loss. Coverage of Manchester United vs. Benfica begins at 7:15pm on both Joy Sports and Adom-TV only on Multi-TV. Europa league action returns this Tuesday.
