The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) has advised prospective vehicle buyers to confirm with it (CEPS) the genuineness of documents covering vehicles they intend to purchase.
It said anyone found in possession of uncustomed vehicle or who buys a vehicle with fake documents stood the risk of paying the full duties and taxes on the vehicle plus pecuniary penalty or forfeiture of the vehicle.
A statement issued by CEPS in Accra on Friday said it had noted with concern that some “unscrupulous” Ghanaians still resorted to dubious ways of importing vehicles into the country and selling them to unsuspecting buyers without the payment of custom duties.
It reminded the public that the CEPS vehicle Task Forces across the country were still mounting exercises to weed out uncustomed vehicle from the system.
The statement said prospective vehicle buyers should submit all documents on such vehicles for verification to any CEPS regional office or Room 3 at its headquarters in Accra.
