The Central Ayawaso constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates, on Saturday elected Dr. Kwesi Ofei Agyeman, as the parliamentary candidate for the 2008 Elections at its primaries in Accra.
Dr. Agyeman, Director of New Life Clinic, polled 99 votes to beat Hajia Mariam Sinare, the party's parliamentary candidate in the 2004 Election, who polled 98 votes.
The Electoral College was made up of 198 delegates from the constituency, which included 3 proxy voters.
Dr. Agyeman promised to work hard to enable the party win the seat and pledged to establish a housing scheme for the constituents if elected.
He also said he would ensure that education formed the foundation for development in the constituency and set up a credit union, which would mobilize funds to assist the youth in the constituency.
Dr. Agyeman said this would also assist the youth in setting up small and medium scale enterprises to enable them to become self-employed.
Hajia Sinare pledged her support for Dr. Agyeman and gave the assurance that she would be part of his campaign team.
Ahmed Baba Jamal, Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, said the party was on its way to victory in 2008 adding "any one who would be a stumbling block to this victory would be crushed."
He urged sympathizers of the NDC to work hard so that the party could wrest the Central Ayawaso parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party.
Present at the primaries were Mr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, National Organizer of the party, Nii Amassah Namoale, Member of Parliament for Dadekotopon as well as some regional and national executives of the party.
