The Premier League Board have confirmed that three telecommunication companies have expressed huge interest in sponsoring the Ghanaian Premier League.
This comes less than 24-hours after the PLB abrogated its contract with another mobile phone operator, Onetouch, for failing to make the 40 per cent advance payment of the total amount.
Although the league organizers are tight-lipped on disclosing names, it is believed Globacom are the frontrunners for the league's naming rights.
According the Chairman of the PLB, Welbeck Abra-Appiah, the new sponsor should be ready for an improved bid than the US$ 2.5m offered by Onetouch.
“The major should certainly have to give us something better than what Onetouch offered us," he told Ghanasoccernet.com
"And then again the issue of giving them the local rights in terms of showing some few matches on the local television is a mileage we must give the next sponsor.
“We have spoken to the clubs and they understand the decision. We hope to name the sponsor by the close of next week," Abra-Appiah said on Friday.
“We want a better deal for the clubs because they can't suffer the financial pinch for long."
