Cecilia Dapaah, former Sanitation and Water Resources Minister

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has disclosed that President secretly ordered the former Sanitation Minister to tender her resignation after news of huge cash missing at her home.

President Akufo-Addo who was in Rome then was reportedly infuriated by the news and had ordered Cecilia Abena Dapaah to tender in her resignation or else he would be forced to remove her from office, he disclosed on Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Monday.

"I'm privy to what went on before that resignation was tendered. The President was away in Rome when the news broke. One evening, he called his entourage and ask what was happening back home.

"And I'm told they gave him all the briefing and the information I have is that he got very angry and said Cecilia Abena Dapaah shouldn't be disgracing his government this way.

"And other calls were made to Ghana and by Saturday morning, the information I had was that the president had to sack her when he returned.

"But later in the day, he changed his mind and instructed the Chief of Staff to call her and ask her to tender in her resignation.

"Failure to do so, she would be fired. This is information I have from sources that were with the president when this issue was happening," he told host Kojo Yankson.

According to the journalist, this was shortly after the former Minister herself had tendered her resignation.

Cecilia Abena Dapaah had expressed that there were inconsistencies in the media and police reportage on the issue.

She indicated she was going to clarify them but never did until and still while she has resigned.

Although the President is said to have been angry in the wake of the news, in accepting her resignation, he expressed confidence in the integrity of the former Minister.

He seemingly indicated that she was going to be exonerated after all evidence has been brought to bare.

The public has since been outraged by the president's response, as some have expressed that it was prejudicial.

Meanwhile, investigations are still going on.
