The Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), a pressure within the Ghana National Association (GNAT), has denounced the formation of the National Progressive Teachers Association (NAPTA).
George Aggrey, the National Chairman of CCT, told a press conference that "CCT wants it to be on record conclusively that the break away of our colleagues, calling themselves NAPTA, is undemocratic, unprofessional and unethical."
He said the NAPTA action was unethical because it failed to meet the leadership of CCT and GNAT before making the move.
"CCT has held long discussions with the leadership of GNAT on certain issues and they have agreed to some changes as soon as possible."
Mr Aggrey said a recent press conference organised by NAPTA was a fake one because even its executive members were not aware of it and alleged that the press conference was organised under the influence of NAGRAT.
Mr Aggrey said the total number of GNAT membership was about 174,000 and the claim by NAPTA it has 70,000 members was false.
He said the rate of breakaways from GNAT indicated that all was not well with the association and it was about time members of GNAT united to find lasting solution to their problems.
Mr Aggrey appealed to NAPTA to come back to the fold of CCT to strengthen its front to put pressure on GNAT to do what is expected of it.
He said the fact that CCT had agreed in principle to work with GNAT did not mean that it would sit down unconcerned for its leadership to take teachers for a ride.
