A circuit court "A" at Tema granted 60 million cedis bail to James Boakye Acheampong, a car dealer, for allegedly defrauding a sand winner of 17.5 million cedis.
Acheampong who pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretences would re-appear in court on August 30, 2007.
Police Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the court presided over by Mr. Charles Asiedu that, Acheampong resided at Sakumono near Tema while Isaac Narh, the sand winner stayed at Prampram.
Prosecution said Narh's brother-in-law who was resident in Holland sent him a car last year, which needed to be cleared from the Tema Port.
Inspector Otchere said the accused met Narh at a car park near the Tema Post Office and offered to assist him (Narh) to clear the vehicle at 25 million cedis.
Prosecution said Narh paid 17.5 million cedis to the accused who issued him (Narh) with a receipt.
Inspector Otchere said the accused went into hiding after collecting the money until Narh spotted him in Tema Community One and reported him the police.
The prosecution said during interrogation, the accused admitted that he committed the offence.
