The University of Cape Coast branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy Network of the New Patriotic Party has asked the former first couple, Flt. Lt. JJ Rawlings and Mrs. Agyeman Konadu Rawlings to apologise to Nana Akufo-Addo for questioning his credibility as a lawyer.
The Tescon branch, in a statement signed by its president, Davis Opoku Ansah said the Rawlingses must render an unqualified apology for dragging the name of the flag-bearer into disrepute, and also urged authorities of the Ghana Armed Forces to investigate the alleged arrest of commercial drivers said to have flouted traffic regulations and subjected to some inhuman treatment at the 37 Military Hospital morgue.
It said anyone found guilty of the act should be punished.
Below is the complete statement from the Cape Vars TESCON.
PRESS RELEASE BY THE TERTIARY EDUCATION STUDENTS CONFEDERACY OF THE NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY (TESCON), UCC ON THE RANTINGS FROM THE RAWLINGS’ FAMILY
We have followed with keen interest the recent outburst from the former 1st family and we wish to make the following observations:
1. The Rawlings family were reported to have met with the TEIN of the NDC at which meeting, usually of them, the Rawlings were crazy with personal attacks, lies and insults on very noble and decent people including his Excellency J. A. Kufour, President of the republic and Hon. Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, the flag bearer of our Party. We believe that the TEIN was supposed to be the student wing of the NDC. We certainly are the student wing of the NPP. We must be the eyes and ears of society. If the “eye and ears of society” themselves show that they do not have “eyes and ears” as the TEIN of the NDC has shown, one wonders where this country is headed.
2. It has become obvious that the NDC is using what can be described as communist inferior tactic by encouraging their “hit squad”, the Rawlings to muddy the waters and stir turmoil. They have seen the decision of our good flag bearer to insist on a campaign of relevant issues and not to get distracted to responding to shameful, disgraceful and nonsensical rantings of a disgruntled person or group of persons who clearly suffer a zero sum mentality as a fine opportunity to perpetrate this crime. We respect the decision of our flag bearer and pray that God gives him more wisdom and patience so that the campaign continues to focus on the necessary issues. We however wish to state that we would stand in the way of anybody who intends to turn the clock of progress backwards. The Rawlings’ must be told that the destiny of this country in not tied to their apron strings.
3. The Rawlings’ have become, the proverbial irresponsible chief towards who face the left hand must be pointed and to whom the truth, no matter how harsh must be told and they brought it on themselves. We have watched these people insult and disrespect everybody except themselves in this country for far too long. His victims include very respectable people of society such as the President, the Asantehene, the Yagbonwura, the Naayirri and even his stooge Atta Mills and Hon Mahama. For the NDC, they have a gun to their heads so cannot speak. We are free individuals and we say to the Rawlings to begin to act as normal human beings. We shall deny them the privilege of a reaction from senior members of our Party. The Rawlings’ have lost respect and as from now TESCON shall not hesitate to engage them in their “childish” game.
It was reported on Tuesday in the media, that at a meeting held between the TEIN of the NDC and the former 1st family, Mrs. Rawlings, characteristic of her ill-mannered nature questioned the academic laurels and the veracity of the law certificate that the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo, has painstakingly acquired. Married to a dump head who barely struggled to sail through to secondary education with allegedly porous grades, Mrs. Rawlings appears to have difficulty comprehending how somebody could be so versatile in two major fields; Economics and Law. To educate her ignorance, studying Economics for a 1st degree and continuing to earn a Law certificate is a regular practice in Ghana and else where.
After Nana Addo’s successful Bsc. Economics degree in the University of Ghana, Legon, the fine gentleman was admitted into Lancing College, Sussex England. Prominent peers of Nana Addo include Sir David Hare a prominent playwright and Stephen Green, Chairman of HSBC.
We wish to state as follows:
That
1. The Ghana Bar Association comes out to educate the uninformed such as Mrs. Rawlings on what and how one becomes a lawyer. If for nothing at all Nana Addo was Vice President, for the Greater Accra Regional branch of the GBA from 1989 to 1991 and because of his true leadership, subsequently became the President of the Greater Accra Regional branch of the GBA from 1991 to 1996.
2. The Rawlings’ and the NDC should stick to the campaign based on issues because if they fail, we will not sit back and look at them. The ordinary Ghanaian must be informed and should be done properly.
3. We need an unqualified apology from the first family and it should be done in the interim.
We would use this opportunity to call on the Ghana armed forces to investigate the alleged injustice meted out to some Drivers at the 37 military hospital. We condemn the act and anybody found guilty be brought to book.
We call on all well meaning people to unequivocally condemn this all unfortunate behavior on the part of some individuals who for their selfish gains, will go as much as destabilizing the peaceful ambience we are enjoying in Ghana.
Thank you and God bless you.
Long Live Nana Addo
Long live Ghana.
