The Chief Executive Officer of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Dr. Eric Kofi Ngyedu has paid glowing tribute to Medical Laboratory Professionals in the country.
According to him, their invaluable contributions to the health care delivery chain in the various hospitals across the country were critical to many services that the hospitals run.
Speaking at the launch of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital’s branch of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr. Ngyedu indicated that Medical Laboratory Scientists have become the bedrock of acceleration and assurance of practicing high standards and ethics.
He reminded the medical laboratory professionals of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital to continue to work together with all other health professionals as one health care team delivering on the mandate of the Hospital whilst protecting the name and integrity of the facility.
He congratulated and assured the Chapter of the management of the hospital’s support to creating a very conducive environment that will enhance the practice of the Medical Laboratory Profession and enhance their contribution to the delivery of advanced tertiary health care through medical laboratory education (undergraduate and postgraduate) and research.
The President of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr. Abu Abudu Rahamani, was enthused by the kind words of the CEO of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and encouraged him to live up to his pledged support for the Chapter members by enrolling them in the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (WAPCMLS) when they come knocking.
He encouraged the interim chapter executives to work in the interest of the profession per the constitution and towards the welfare of the chapter members.
Central Regional Chairman of the professional body, Samuel Amoah, in his remarks, took audience through the hospital’s historic journey into attaining a Teaching Hospital status.
"The Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, formerly called the Central Regional Hospital was fully transformed into a Teaching Hospital in 2014, hence the constitution mandates the Regional Executive Council to institute a Teaching Hospital’s Chapter," he explained.
The Laboratory Manager of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital’s Laboratory Department, Daniel Edem Azumah, recounted the journey of the professional body, the successes chalked and reminded the Medical Laboratory Professionals of their sworn code of conduct and responsibilities towards the promotion of high standard of medical laboratory science education and practice in Ghana.
He pledged his support for the interim Chapter Executive officers in promoting the policies of GAMLS and the welfare of members of the Chapter.
The program was climaxed with a swearing-in ceremony where the interim Executive Officers were led by the General Secretary of the National Association, Solomon Kwashie into swearing of the oath of office, allegiance, and secrecy.
