I know that everything is possible under the sun; but since God does not reside under the sun, I ask; is it possible for God to become the devil?
The December 07, 2012, election came and went and on the night of Sunday, December 09, 2012, the Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Djan, put out the results and pronounced His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama President-elect of the Republic of Ghana.
Congratulations to President Mahama for leading the NDC into another back-to-back electoral victory.
As a nation, and specifically since the fourth Republican era began in 1992, Ghana has successfully gone through 6 General Elections, and as a nation and as a people, we can be proud of the very high pedestal on which we are standing our democratic credentials.
I am sure you are wondering what the caption of this piece has got to do with what I have been sharing with you thus far; do not worry, you will soon walk into the substance of my thought process.
As has been the stock-in-trade of the secessionist “Mate me hu” UP political tradition, they have consistently found it difficult to accept the results of elections.
In 1992, 1996, 2008, and now 2012, the NPP has refused to concede defeat.
As the records have it, in 1992, the NPP actually boycotted Parliament and wrote “The Stolen Verdict”.
On the contrary, in 2004, when Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey called a press conference at the Castle and announced the NPP as winner of the election because it was clear that the electorate had given the mandate to Professor John Evans Atta Mills, the NDC took it in its stride.
As the records have it, in spite of what Jake did, the peaceful and nation-loving Professor Atta Mills conceded defeat in the supreme interest of ensuring the safety of all and sundry.
For a fact, the Professor Atta Mills began to have problems with Jerry Rawlings after the 2004 elections because the latter ordered the former to hit the streets and reject the results but the law-abiding law Professor and legal luminary ignored the order of his former boss and let Jake and Kufuor get away with their stolen verdict.
President Atta Mills did not have an inordinate desire to become President “At All Cost” and so bade his time and God granted him victory in 2008.
On the contrary, Akufo-Addo has an inordinate desire to be President “At All Cost” and so does not want to believe that majority of Ghanaians are not ready to have him lead this dear nation of ours down the path of tribal bigotry and divisive politics.
In 2008, Akufo-Addo FAILED to concede and congratulate President Atta Mills, and in 2012, the self-same Akufo-Addo has FAILED to concede defeat and congratulate President John Dramani Mahama.
As I write this piece, out of the 8 persons who contested to lead this dear nation of ours, Akufo-Addo is the only one who has REFUSED to concede defeat.
Majority of Ghanaians have voted for President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC Government to continue with a development agenda cum growth plan that is all-encompassing and non-discriminatory, and Akufo-Addo and his “All Die Be Die” squadron do not seem to understand that he people have spoken and NOTHING can be done about it.
The verdict is out; and Akufo-Addo is really amusing me with his time-wasting and Alice In Wonderland line of thinking.
What is making Akufo-Addo think that he can get the EC to announce him as winner of the election?
Is Akufo-Addo really expecting Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Djan to hold another press conference and say that he made a mistake with the figures he put out and so he has realised his ‘mistake’ and so is announcing that Akufo-Addo is the President-elect?
Can God become the devil? Certainly not!!!
Do you now get the import of my caption?
Just as it is IMPOSSIBLE for God to become the devil, so shall it be IMPOSSIBLE for the EC to change the verdict and announce Akufo-Addo as winner of the election.
How can Akufo-Addo claim to have won the election when his MPs fell to the ground like ripe and rotten mangoes?
How can Akufo-Addo claim to have won the election when the NDC is leading the NPP with about 30 seats in Parliament?
Officially, the NDC has 150 seats against the NPP’s 121.
However, the reality is that 3 Independent MPs and the only PNC MP are on the side of the NDC.
Indeed, the PNC MP, Hon Azong, is currently a Minister in the Mills/Mahama Government.
So how on earth can Akufo-Addo be tickling himself and convincing himself that he won the election and that the EC stole the verdict for President Mahama?
How come the NPP candidates who lost their seats are not claiming that their votes were stolen, and it is only Akufo-Addo who is claiming that his votes were stolen and given to President Mahama?
The NPP would have the world believe that the UP tradition holds the key to Ghana’s democracy but the records do not support that wonky and legless position.
The UP Tradition and its offspring the NPP, believe in democracy only to the extent that it inures to their benefit.
Democracy is good when the NPP wins; Democracy is bad when the NDC wins.
How can true democrats pick and choose moments to respect the tenets of our democracy, and spit in the face of our democracy when they cannot have their way?
It is as clear as daylight that Akufo-Addo and the likes of, destructive and very abusive Kennedy Agyepong and young misguided militants such as Sammy Awuku, Mike Ocquaye Jnr., Yaw Buabeng-Asamoah and co, are wishing war upon Ghana.
Of course, Akufo-Addo and his aides have not hidden the fact that they want Ghana to burn, and they are hell-bent on torching this dear nation of ours.
Time without number, Akufo-Addo and his aides have made it abundantly clear that they either win the election “At All Cost”, or Ghana should be ready for an Arab-Spring-like uprising.
While Anthony Karbo has threatened to turn Ghana into Afghanistan, Kennedy Agyepong has threatened to turn Ghana into Rwanda.
Since the afternoon of Saturday, December 08, 2012, when Sammy Awuku and his “worma funu” contingent besieged a private office in Dzorwulu, claiming that the EC was rigging the election for the NDC from that office, it has been pretty obvious that the NPP is desperately courting some form of confrontation which they can use as the spark to ignite their Arab Spring agenda.
The extreme provocation coming from the camp of the NPP, and led by Akufo-Addo and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, is part of their modus operandi of breathing fire and mayhem upon this dear nation of ours.
Akufo-Addo believes that he was born to RULE Ghana and so cannot respect the Sovereign (apologies to Dr. Mensa Otabil) will of the people.
Truth be told; as a solid member of the NDC, I am very happy that Akufo-Addo, Jake, Sir John, Sammy Awuku, Kennedy Agyepong and co are working tirelessly to destroy the NPP forever.
Yes, I am very happy watching Akufo-Addo and co make it impossible for the NPP to repair its already damaged image before the 2016 General Election.
Scores of Ghanaians (including some fair-minded NPP supporters) are seething with rage at the way and manner Akufo-Addo and Jake are mis-conducting themselves and cannot wait to teach them another bitter lesson come 2016.
From all indications, Jake and Akufo-Addo will not be leading the NPP into the 2016 election but their repugnant actions are going to make it very difficult for the new crop of Leaders.
Certainly, there are fairer minds within the NPP and Akufo-Addo and Jake are doing everything possible to kill the potential of such fairer minds.
Come to think of it, who says that Akufo-Addo and Jake are not consciously and deliberately blighting the chances of the NPP?
There is no denying the fact that Akufo-Addo and Jake know that President Kufuor and his group are feverishly preparing to position a new candidate going into the 2016 election, and so they are doing everything possible keep the NPP in opposition for a long time.
Akufo-Addo has decided that if he cannot become President, then the NPP must remain in opposition “At All Cost”.
Hmmmm!!!
I am sighing a sigh of relief knowing that Akufo-Addo is making the job of the NDC very easy.
For sure, President Mahama is poised to lead the nation on a path of solid growth and development and with Akufo-Addo and Jake very busy killing the NPP, I am a very content person.
Multi party democracy is good but if Akufo-Addo and Jake can destroy the NPP and make the party lose a lot of its poisonous fangs and devilish claws, all the better for Ghana’s democracy.
Indeed, were it possible to go to the polls again today, Akufo-Addo would be given a more bitter pill to swallow in the wake of his unacceptable conduct.
As for me, I am just praying that Akufo-Addo continues to misbehave so that he catches the attention of the International Criminal Court (ICC) so he can be prosecuted for crimes against humanity and crime of aggression.
The people of Ghana have spoken and it is really sad that Akufo-Addo is abusing the decision of the good people of Ghana and attempting to foist himself on us.
For as long as God is God, and He can NEVER become the devil, Akufo-Addo can only continue to wish and dream about being President of Kwame Nkrumah’s Ghana because there is NO WAY Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Djan will change the collective will of the people and announce Akufo-Addo as winner of the 2012 General Election.
