Total calm has returned to Wa, the Upper West Regional capital after clashes between some youth of the town and police personnel on Tuesday.
The youth were protesting the death of a motor rider who they claimed was pulled off his motorbike by a police officer for failing to obey a stop order.
The deceased, Bashiru Dean Saeed was in his late twenties and a final year student of Wa Polytechnic. He sustained head injuries from the fall and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Regional Hospital.
A lady companion riding with him Florence Dapla survived and remains on admission at the Wa hospital.
Joy News correspondent Rafik Salam said people were going about their duties as though nothing had happened, but the Administrator of the hospital, Roger Gale said no word had been heard from either of the family of the deceased or the police.
Following the clashes the Regional Minister, Ambrose Dery called an emergency Regional Security Council Meeting after which he set up a three-member committee to investigate the circumstances of the death.
