There is seeming calm in Akatsi in the Akatsi South District of the Volta Region following a clash between the youth and the police.
There is a heavy security presence in the community with intense patrol to ensure peace and order.
However, a mentally challenged man is battling for his life after a bullet hit him in the waistline during the clash.
Agboyibor Yao, as he is affectionately called, is currently receiving treatment at Ho Teaching Hospital in Ho.
However, the Akatsi Municipal Cheif Executive, Nyahe Kofitse, assured that steps are being taken to ensure that things of this nature do not recur.
He said the Municipal Security Council would meet with traditional authorities to deliberate on the matter and decide the next line of action.
The genesis of the clash
Youth in Akatsi thronged the streets pelting stones at the Police Station to protest the death of one Setor Agormeda, who was allegedly hit by a police riot control vehicle, leading to his death.
The deceased was said to be on a motorbike with two others, who were mistaken by the police as culprits of a recent robbery incident in Akatsi.
They refused to stop after the police instructed them; hence were chased by the Police riot control van, which eventually hit them against a roadside barricade.
The two others on the motorbike are currently receiving treatment at the 66 Artillery Regiment Clinic.
One Hamza Adamu is also reported dead after being hit by a bullet during the riot.
