The Institute for Education Studies (IFEST) has responded to the Minority's call to the Ministry of Education to scrap the Ghana Teacher Licensing Examination, describing it as retrogressive and not the alternative.
In an August 26 statement, by its Executive Director, Peter Anti found the passing ratio of teachers who sat for the examination worrying.
IFEST, therefore, believes the call by the NDC MPs is highly uninformed.
Mr Anti says " the minority and others with a similar position on the GTLE should note that it will not be in the interest of our educational system to abolish the examination on the basis that, candidates who sat for the GTLE could not pass."
"It should rather worry anyone who is interested in quality education delivery in Ghana," he explained.
According to the institute, the interest should be geared towards "probing further to ascertain the possible reasons for such a performance by candidates who have successfully completed their teacher training programme."
"We cannot add to the numerous challenges of our basic and secondary education with half-baked human resource," potions of the press release read.
The Institute for Education Studies admits the GTLE may have its challenges but those challenges should be looked at and resolved.
