A taxi driver is in the grips of the police for allegedly murdering a 24-year-old unemployed at Swanlake near North Kaneshie in Accra on Monday. The suspect, Daniel Odei, 29, is said to have stabbed Samuel Appiah, alias Apisolo, a resident of Swanlake in the shoulder, neck and head with a broken bottle after they had been separated in an earlier misunderstanding between them. The two were said to be drunk at the time of the incident. Briefing the Ghanaian Times on Tuesday, the Kaneshie District Police Commander, Chief Superintendant Fleance Adikah, said on July 2, at about 12:35am, Appiah, who was said to have been drunk, went out to buy an Indomine meal. According to the District Commander, while buying the food, a misunderstanding ensued between Appiah and someone he accused of having an affair with his girlfriend. Chief Supt. Adikah said though the person he accused left, he continued talking about the issue when Odei got there and pleaded with him to stop further discussions of the issue. That suggestion, according to Mr Adikah, angered Appiah resulting in exchange of words between him and Odei. Chief Supt. Adikah said, the two were separated and Odei left only to return a few minutes later with a bottle and resumed the words of war with Appiah and in the process stabbed him in the neck, shoulder and head and fled the scene. He said Appiah, who was bleeding profusely, was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Chief Supt Adikah said Odei, after the incident surrendered himself to the police alleging that the deceased cut his thumb with a nail cutter, and that while at the police station, Appiah’s relatives arrived to lodge a murder case against the suspect. He said Odei is currently in police custody assisting in investigations, while the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Korle-Bu mortuary awaiting autopsy.
