Alhaji Dawoud Ben-Hadaad, a 63-year-old businessman was on Wednesday remanded into prison custody by a circuit court in Cape Coast, for allegedly defrauding one Mr Richard Gyamfi of GH¢ 180 under the pretext of employing him as a supply manager in his company.
He pleaded not guilty and would reappear on January 4, 2008.
Prosecuting, chief inspector Hope Azasoo, told the court, presided over by Mr. Richard Asiedu-Badu, that Mr Gyamfi was unemployed, whiles Ben-Hadaad claimed to be a businessman and both live at Ataabadze Junction near Elmina, and that on July 10, 2006, he approached Mr Gyamfi and told him that he was going to operate a cocoa buying company at Ataabadze Junction.
He said Ben-Hadaad then promised to employ Mr Gyamfi in the new company as a supply manager and that he would also give him 30 percent of the company’s shares, and went further to tell Mr. Gyamfi that any money he would collect from him would enable him (Ben-Hadaad) to travel to Iran for a loan from his business partners to facilitate the early start of the business.
Chief Inspector Azasoo said with this information, he managed to collect 180 Ghana cedis from Mr Gyamfi and went into hiding, until he was arrested upon a tip-off on July 20, this year at Ataabadze Junction.
In a related development, Alhaji Dawoud Ben-Hadaad who also allegedly defrauded one Mr Somua Ashong of 3,000.00 Ghana cedis (30 million cedis) under pretext of employing him as an operations manager in his company was remanded into prison custody by the same court.
He pleaded not guilty and is to reappear on January 4, 2008.
