Ken Ofori Atta, CEO of Databank has stressed the need for the business community to influence policies in Ghana that shape their lives rather than leaving the mantle in the hands of government.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show Friday, Mr. Ofori Atta said the situation where policies designed to shape the business community was left in the hands of government was regrettable because according to him, it is the business community which gets affected when successive governments draw up policies that may or may not suit them.
“I think we are in a society where maybe politics has played too huge a role and the business community have not stood up as strongly to influence policy as much as we should...and if we don’t, then we cede the governance and progress of this society to a certain group of politicians and why should that be,” he said.
Mr Ofori Atta was speaking on the development of entrepreneurship in Ghana and though he admitted that Ghana has come a long way these past twenty years, a lot still needed to be done to enable a more comfortable environment for budding entrepreneurs.
The Databank CEO also offered some words of advice to budding entrepreneurs, highlighting the importance of believing in one’s mission and being passionate about the field of endeavour.
He also said individuals should not be discouraged by small beginnings and cited himself as one example who started in a small room in Kantamanto with $25,000 but reaped the benefits of hard work and dedication to make him one of Ghana’s most successful CEOs.
