The Bursar of Kofi Adjei Senior High School in the Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region and his brother have been slapped with a five-year jail-term each for conspiring and threatening to kill the proprietress of Mensah Saahene Primary and Junior High School at Mampong. An Nsuta Circuit Court presided over by Justice U.P. Dery last Monday convicted the bursar, Patterson Ahenkang, 55, and his brother Kwame Kwabea, mason, 61, to five years in prison in hard labour for falling foul of the law. Meanwhile, the family of the late Kwaku Mensah Saahene has set aside GH¢500 for anyone who is able to give information that will lead to the arrest of Kenneth Collins Bonsu, popularly known as Burger Ntiamoah, 52, contractor who was cited as an accomplice in the case. The convicts whose judgment drew hundreds of curious residents to the court room were said to have met to prepare a letter which was purported to have been written by the ghost of the late husband of the proprietress and delivered it to her, instructing her to hand over the school she had inherited from him or face death. The court found the convicts culpable on six counts of charges of threat of death, conspiracy to forge document, abetment of forgery, forgery of document, possession of forged document and uttering forged document preferred against them. They pleaded not guilty. Recounting the facts of the case, the prosecuting officer, DSP E. Arzah Mamalieh narrated that the complainant, Mavis Owusu Aboagye, the proprietress, was once married to Kwaku Mensah Saahene, the grandfather of the two jailbirds, who died about eight years ago. DSP Mamalieh mentioned that on June 9, 2007, the convicts met to prepare a forged document supposed to have been written by the deceased person, instructing his surviving wife to hand over the school she had inherited from him or face death. The three, Ahenkang, Kwabia and Bonsu, were said to have met and contracted one Kwadwo Bronya, 87, unemployed, to deliver the said letter from the late Kwaku Mensah Saahene to the complainant at her school premises. Bronya had earlier gone to check if the complainant was on the school premises but was told by the school’s security guard that she was not, during which encounter the guard suspected that Bronya might habour evil intentions. According to the court, Bonsu and Bronya alighted from bursar Ahenkang’s white Peugeot car with registration number WR 7787 C, with the drafted letter which was taken to a typist near the Mampong High Court to type in Kwabia’s presence after which Bonsu proofread the unstamped letter and gave it to Bronya to deliver to the complainant. According to the prosecutor, Bonsu dropped Bronya off at the school premises, with a red motorbike. Bronya was said to have delivered the addressed letter to one Mr. Appiah, the Director of the school to be given to the proprietress on his behalf. DSP Mamalieh noted that when Mr. Appiah handed the letter to Mavis Owusu Aboagye, the fear-stricken proprietress inquired about the origin of the letter; and her security guard who had spoken to Bronya earlier, divulged the information. On the same night, the prosecuting officer related that Kwaku Bronya was arrested and after questioning, he mentioned Ahenkang, Bonsu and Kwabia, who were later apprehended at a drinking spot belonging to Bonsu. When the accused persons appeared before the court on Monday for the determination of their fate, Bonsu was absent and an aged relative claimed he was under the weather.
