Nigerian musician Burna Boy has subtly addressed comments by colleague Davido calling him and other artistes “new cats” while addressing a hierarchy in the music industry.
Davido had said that he and Wizkid paved the way for artistes like Rema, Fireboy, Burna Boy among others and as such deserved some accolades.
His comment did not sit well with many music lovers who felt Burna Boy did not have to be in the 'new cat' category.
However, in a new interview, Burna Boy addressed the comments subtly noting that he does not see it as a bad term but rather one that makes him seem young.
“It is a good thing that people think my movement is new. I love that. Because it keeps me young. It means like, I can do so much more, you know. It stretches my life span," he said.
Burna Boy went on to say that he is thankful to have the opportunity to do different genres of music adding that it allows him to be experimental.
“I feel blessed that I can do different genres. It would have been a waste if I had restricted myself to a genre. Music is bigger than a genre," he added.
