The British High Commissioner to Ghana, Peter Jones has lauded Ghanaian Chevening Scholars who he says distinguished themselves in their various fields having completed their studies in the United Kingdom.
Speaking to Myjoyonline.com at the official launch of the Chevening Scholarships for 2013/2014 Academic Year, Peter Jones revealed that each year, most of the very best students studying under the scholarship come from Ghana and he’s optimistic that the trend will continue.
The Chevening Scholarship is a global scholarship programme which is funded by the UK government.
The Scholarships are awarded to exceptional individuals with leadership potential. Awards are typically for a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any UK university.
The Scholarships aim to support UK foreign policy priorities by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders and decision makers around the world.
The launch of the 2013/2014 which took place Thursday at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Accra brought together a host of former Chevening Scholars in a bid to foster strong ties among the Alumni.
The event was also used to outdoor the Alumni of Oxford-Cambridge (Oxbridge) Plus, a group that comprised past students of Oxford University and Cambridge University who are resident in Ghana.
Since the Chevening Scholarship was launched in 1984, a total of 237 Ghanaians have benefited from the Scheme.
Persons interested in applying for the Scholarship are required to visit www.chevening.org/ghana/apply for information on eligibility and selection criteria.
