British Council has opened applications for the Gender Equality Partnerships 2024-2025.

This initiative aims to bring together higher and further education institutions in the UK and Ghana to tackle some of the most pressing gender equality issues in education.

Since 2021, British Council’s Gender Equality Partnerships project has been running to drive systemic change across nations.

The 2024-2025 cycle is open in Ghana and seeks to focus on four main areas to promote gender equality and systemic change: the prevention of violence against women and girls with a particular focus on higher and further education institutions as safe spaces for women, addressing women’s underrepresentation in higher and further education leadership, enabling access and tackling subject segregation, particularly in the area of STEM (including encouraging STEM-related learning), and strengthening pathways into employment for women graduates from further and higher education.

These include developing or enhancing gender equality policies and strategies, researching and tackling barriers to career progression for women, improving employment outcomes for women and girls, creating policies to prevent and respond to gender-based violence, and supporting initiatives that help girls and women thrive in STEM fields.

The grant amount is £25,000 for a duration of 12 months beginning January 1, 2025. The application deadline is September 16, 2024.

The British Council described the initiative as a significant step towards promoting gender equality in education in Ghana.It expressed its committed to empowering women and girls through education and creating lasting, positive change.
