The British Council has announced a new focus for its activities as part of the celebration of its 65 years of work in Ghana which falls in April 2008.
A statement issued Thursday said the council would be concentrating on three main areas: support for education and youth development, support for young professionals, and support for management development and leadership training.
Moses Anibaba, the Director of the British Council, said, "We have some very exciting programmes around Ghana and intend to expand and enrich them across the country; we are committed to renewing and strengthening our contribution to Ghana's development".
As a result of the new focus, the British Council will stop offering public access lending and study services from all its current premises from today.
Consequently, no new members will be registered by the British Council library and members will no longer have access to lending or study services. The library is expected to remain in operation as a reference facility for a further three week period, ending December 21, 2007.
The British Council has determined that its library facilities can be better accessed through partner organisations across Ghana, notably university libraries, with whom the council is co-operating. The library resources would thereafter, be transferred to these partner organisations around the country.
The British Council plans to expand its activity in professional development and to take this far beyond Accra and Kumasi under the new focus.
The British Council Management & Leadership Forum in Ghana has become a monthly professional development and networking event.
