The Central Regional Police have intercepted 380 parcels of substances believed to be cocaine, in the early hours of Sunday.
The substances being transported in a Toyota 4 Runner vehicle with registration number GR 1204 Y had been kept airtight in 20 traveling bags.
The latest bust comes barely two weeks after the National Police Administration asked the Police to be on high alert as there had been rumours of drug barons trying to cart drugs across the country’s boarders.
According to reports, the tip-off got the Police to intensify their search of vehicles, especially private vehicles, for illicit substances.
Joy correspondent Richard Kojo Nyarko speaking from Atabeli Junction in the Kommenda-Edena-Eguafo-Abirim district of the Central Region, said there were three men onboard the vehicle including two Nigerians.
The third person, a Ghanaian by name Samuel Mills-Robertson, was the driver of the vehicle, which belonged to his brother, a sub-contractor with Ghana Telecom.
He said he was deceived by the two Nigerians into using the vehicle which belonged to his elder brother, a sub-contractor at Ghana Telecom, to transport the drugs with a promise to give him some GH¢40,000.
According to Kojo Nyarko when Mills-Robertson was arrested, he pleaded with the police to set him free so that he would give them $5000.
The Police however declined the offer and reported the incident to the Regional Police Headquarters.
