Former Ghana Black Stars coach, Kwasi Appiah, has described the experience of leading the Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, as the most memorable of his career.

Speaking to FIFA, Appiah recounted the highs and lows of Ghana's campaign, which, despite high expectations, ended in disappointment.

"Fabulous memories," Appiah began as quoted by FIFA. "Playing football in the game’s spiritual home was an unforgettable experience," he added.

Appiah took charge of the Black Stars after the 2012 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Gabon- Equatorial Guinea.

Prior to that, he won the 2011 African Games football tournament in Maputo. He says the opportunity lead the senior national team came at the right time.

"This profession requires patience and careful attention to even the smallest details," Appiah said. "And my opportunity came at just the right time."

Under his guidance, Ghana qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, seeking to replicate the success of the 2010 World Cup, where Ghana made history by reaching the quarter-finals.

"Ghana wanted a repeat of 2010, when they reached the quarter-finals, and we were physically and mentally ready for the 2014 edition," he stated.

However, despite their preparations and determination, the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage, a result that Appiah attributes to the fine margins that often define success at the World Cup.

"However, it came down to small details and we didn’t go as far as we’d hoped (the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage)."

Among the standout moments from the tournament was Ghana’s match against the eventual champions, Germany, a thrilling 2-2 draw that remains a highlight for Appiah. "I especially remember our game against eventual champions Germany," he said.
