Two suspected armed robbers, one of them a 14-year-old junior high school (JHS) student, have been arrested by the Manhyia Police for robbing a storekeeper at Asokore-Mampong.
Tawfic Ibrahim, in the company of the juvenile and three others, was alleged to have attacked the storekeeper with a pistol, a machete and knives before robbing him of groceries worth GH¢86.
Their accomplices, whose names have given as Suleman Awal, Ayaatu and Baba Awudu, all residents of Sawaba in Kumasi, are on the run.
Briefing
The Manhyia Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Mrs Deborah Addison-Campbell, said about 9 a.m. on June 21 2014, the suspects attacked the victim in his store and robbed him of items worth GHc86, after which they bolted.
She said the victim’s shouts for help attracted members of the neighbourhood watch committee who assisted him to arrest the juvenile.
She said investigations led to the arrest of Tawfic and he had since been remanded into police custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Teenage robbers
In a related development, the command has also arrested two teenagers, Suraj Salim, 18 and one other, for robbing a man, Yaw Antwi, of his three mobile phones and a modem and also inflicting machete wounds on another person.
Ms Addison-Campbell said about 10 p.m. on June 25, 2014, Antwi was standing in front of his house, together with his friend, making a phone call when the young men, in the company of another, attacked him with a pistol and machetes and robbed him of his mobile phones and the modem.
Punishment
She said Antwi’s friend, who did not have anything on him, was slashed as punishment for not carrying anything.
Antwi later raised an alarm and a police patrol team which was close by managed to arrest one of them.
Ms Addison-Campbell said the following day, Suraj, in the company of another suspect now on the run, went on another robbing spree at Asawasi.
She said they attacked their victim, Kofi Solomon, with a machete and succeeded in robbing him of his HTC mobile phone.
She said a police patrol team arrested Suraj and it was during investigations that it came to light that he had been part of the team that had robbed Antwi of his phones and modem the previous day.
