New Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama has promised to protect the independence of the Bank of Ghana.
He has also expressed commitment to a smooth transition to ensure that there is no challenge in his assumption as the Bank of Ghana Governor.
Dr. Asiamah gave this assurance at a meeting with the two Deputy Governors of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari and Elsie Addo Awadzie, after he formally took over as Governor of the institution.
“His Excellency the President thinks that we should do this because it’s a way of enforcing our independence and encouraging a smooth transition”, Dr. Asiama said.
The new Bank of Ghana Governor added that “The public must see us working together because it’s just another transition”.
Dr. Asiama revealed that some of the people at the Central Bank are known already, and therefore “we should not see the transition as a problem for us at all”.
He also added that, “as the day unfolds, we will look at other things at the institution”.
The new Governor expressed his commitment to the mandate of the regulator, adding, the market should be assured there will not be any disruptions.
