BoG marks end of year with Thanksgiving Service

Dr. Ernest Addison

The Bank of Ghana has held a non-denominational Thanksgiving Service to mark the end of the year.

The Thanksgiving Service was held at the new "Bank Square", under the theme “Give Thanks to the Lord".

The service afforded the Board of Directors, Management, Staff and Stakeholders the opportunity to express gratitude to God for His mercies, guidance and protection and the successful operations of the Bank throughout the year.

In attendance were Board of Directors and Management of the Bank led by Governor Dr. Ernest Addison, Staff and the Clergy.

Dr. Addison opened the service with the first bible reading taken from Psalm 107:1-9.

Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari, First Deputy Governor and Elsie Addo Awadzi, Second Deputy Governor, read the second and third bible readings respectively.

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, in his remarks said the banking sector data has reflected some improved performance, despite declines in some key financial soundness indicators.

He commended the efforts of banks and other financial institutions for their collaborative effort in contributing to economic growth.

He said the domestic gold for reserves programme has been key in building reserves and ensuring a stable exchange rate in the last quarter of 2024.

"From the beginning of the year, there has been a strong build-up of reserves. There have been appreciable gains due to the Gold for Oil programme. The Ghana cedi has also recorded some appreciation since October to end November 2024", he pointed out.

Dr Addison added that the banking sector is expected to remain broadly stable, supported by regulatory reliefs and sustained growth in profitability

The Thanksgiving Service featured melodies of hymns from the Bank’s Melodious Voices of the Exchequer Choir and the Ridge Youth Choir.
