Ghana midfielder Derek Boateng has vowed to stop Real Madrid when his club Getafe clash with the former European champions in a Spanish league on Monday.
Jose Mourinho’s side are bidding to close the five-point gap on Spanish league leaders Barcelona as they kick off 2011 with a testing derby day at city neighbours Getafe.
Real take on an in-form Getafe, who have picked up 12 points from their last four league outings, at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez looking for a derby win to get their title bid up and running.
Boateng played under Jose Mourinho for an African side in a recent fun-filled charity game and now wants to stop the Portuguese coach who likes African players.
The Ghanaian has been a key player of Getafe this season and he is confident they can continue with their winning streak with a win over Real.
“The confidence that took us to the Christmas break with good results is still there and this is what gives us motivation that we can beat Real,” Boateng told Ghanasoccernet.com.
“Real are a great side with a great coach Mourinho but I can assure our fans that they are beatable and that’s what we have set out to do.
“We need to concentrate throughout the 90 minutes and if we do that I am sure we will achieve our aim of winning the game.”
Getafe are five points off the top four and are boosted by the news that Real will be without suspended defender Ricardo Carvalho and injured striker Gonzalo Higuain.
Barcelona ended a fantastic 2010 with 10 consecutive league wins, including a 5-0 thrashing of Mourinho’s Real, and started the new year with a nervy 2-1 home win over Levante on Sunday.
