Kwesi Nyantakyi has been congratulated by Fifa President Sepp Blatter for being elected the interim President of the regional football body, the West African Football Union (Wafu).
The Fifa boss is backing Nyantakyi, who is seeking a re-election for the Presidency of the Ghana Football Association to succeed in his new post.
On Saturday in Banjul, members of Wafu elected Nyantakyi as leader of the regional bloc on a temporary basis.
Blatter, in his congratulatory message remained convinced that Wafu under Nyantakyi would chalk success while preserving and defending the values of the game.
“Following your election to the interim presidency of the West Africa Football Union, I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations to you for this achievement and wish you every success at the helm of West African football for many years to come,” Blatter said.
“Your many years of experience in the pyramid of football will undoubtedly be a huge asset and will help you to accomplish this exciting and complex mission.
“I am convinced that you will continue to preserve and defend the values of our game with the same determination as you have done in the past.
“I wish you strength, health and every success for the challenges that lie ahead.”
The West Africa Football Union (Wafu) is an association of the football playing nations in West Africa.
