August 6th, 2024 marked a significant milestone for the esteemed author, journalist, and advocate, Mrs. Nana Ama Adu-Kwampong, with the launch of her highly anticipated book, Beyond The Greener Pastures.
This insightful book delves into the challenges faced by Ghanaians in the Western world, exploring the informed or uninformed decisions they made and their outcomes.
The book launch, held in Accra, drew a diverse audience of local dignitaries, educators, students, and book lovers, all eager to witness the unveiling of this thought-provoking work.
Beyond The Greener Pastures revolves around the experiences of five Ghanaians who ventured overseas for various reasons. The narrative captures the life of Akua, who, with an expired visitor’s visa, two young children, and a husband without a work permit, finds her life spiraling out of control. Twelve years after leaving secondary school in Ghana, Akua reconnects with four old school friends, and together they share their stories as legal and illegal migrants in London.
Their pursuit of higher education, better job prospects, and a quest for a better life influenced their decisions to move to the UK. Through their tales of love, heartbreak, loss, disappointment, and faith in God, the book paints a vivid picture of their search for greener pastures beyond Africa.

Mrs. Adu-Kwampong uses these real-life experiences to advise Ghanaians, especially young graduates, to avoid traveling without proper inquiries and legal procedures. The book serves as a guide for those wishing to travel to Western countries, emphasising the importance of preparation and informed decision-making.
Dr. Lucy Agyepong, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Academic City University, praised the book as an excellent study material and announced plans to incorporate it into the university's curriculum. Her endorsement underscores the book's significance and potential impact on readers.
Ezabella, an attendee at the event, expressed her anticipation to read the book and urged other youths to do the same. The unveiling and auctioning of Beyond The Greener Pastures generated considerable excitement among those present.
Beyond The Greener Pastures exposes the unfortunate reality that many fail to plan well and make necessary inquiries before traveling abroad in search of a better life.
The book equally encourages individuals to have hope and believe in building a better life in their home countries, highlighting that life overseas can be tough and that opportunities for a fulfilling life exist within Ghana as well.
