Member of Parliament’s Privileges Committee, Kobena Mensah Woyome, says that the committee carries out a thorough job no matter how powerful or influential an individual is.
This was his response to a question by host of super morning show Kojo Yankson about whether the committee can fairly investigate its latest referral involving Chairman of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee Kennedy Agyapong.
The Privileges Committee is shortly expected to come out with clear timelines indicating how it intends to go about its probe into some comments made by the Assin Central.
The committee is seeking to determine whether his comment that Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor ought to be beaten brings the image of parliament into disrepute.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin referred the matter to the committee following a request by Tamale North MP, Alhassan Suhuyini.
Mr Kobinna Mensah Woyome says the committee’s work will be thorough through the application of its rules.
“I don’t think that should even come in, already we have rules governing our conduct. These are all going to be looked at as a mirror to see whether it gives us a better reflection or a wrong reflection, which of course will inform how one decides on the way forward or determine the fate of somebody who probably might have gone wrong or found not guilty at all. So I don’t think none of what you have mentioned will influence any member on the committee at all.”
