Business conglomerate, BEIGE, has launched a new healthcare scheme to provide insurance coverage for individuals and families, with focus on low-income earners.
BEIGE Care, or BCARE, provides access to medical consultation, prescribed drugs, diogonistics investigations, surgical treatment and hospital accommodation.
The healthcare plans are categorised into five main plans and a sixth for persons with chronic conditions.
At a launch event held at the Kaneshie Market in Accra on Wednesday, MD for BCARE, David Osae-Akoto, said in the private health insurance space, many of the schemes are targeted at large corporations and groups, hence the need for a novel scheme that targets individuals.
“You must be working in a formal sector or in a company to get access to the many health retails on the market. But this one makes room for anybody.
"A single individual can purchase healthcare under BEIGE Care. So if you are a single person – a trader at Abosokai – you can buy it. If you are a tomato seller, you can buy it. You need not form a group or association, this one you can buy as an individual,” he reiterated.
A representative from the industry regulator, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Madam Juliet Bessebro – who spoke at the launch event on behalf of Chief Executive of the Authority, Dr. Samuel Annor – lauded BEIGE for the initiative.
“The company should invest its limited resources to deliver competitive products that are in line with market needs,” Madam Bessebro urged BEIGE.
