The commitment of the government to provide quality education for all children of school-going age in the country would be a mirage if parents and guardians failed to provide them with their basic needs. Mr Richard Owusu-Agyemang, Atwima-Nwabiagya District Community Participation Co-ordinator has advised parents to be more responsible for the educational needs of their children and to desist from spending lavishly on social events. He was addressing some community leaders at a workshop on the New Education Reform at Akropong organised by the District Education Directorate with sponsorship from the Department for International Development (DFID). The participants included members of School Management Committees (SMCs), Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), Assembly and Unit Committee, teachers, religious leaders, traditional rulers and other opinion leaders from Akropong, Esaase, Tabere and Darbaa. Mr Owusu-Agyemang said the government had invested huge sums of money and resources to provide education infrastructure, textbooks, furniture and other facilities to enhance quality teaching and learning and asked parents to complement by providing their children with school uniforms, exercise books, pens and other materials. He urged teachers to be proactive to ensure the successful implementation of the reform. Mr Owusu-Agyemang advised community leaders to mobilise resources to put up kindergarten blocks and other facilities for the take off of the programme in September this year. Mr Joseph Ampong, Akropong Circuit Education Supervisor, called for cordial relationship between the school and the community to enhance quality teaching and learning. Source: GNA
