The last in the series of Delta Airlines' sponsored free breast screening and public education program for the year, has taken place at Tepa in the Ashanti region.
It ended with a call on women to report suspected cancer cases first to hospitals, and not prayer camps.
President of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai said though she does not discount the potency of prayer, it should be a sequel to proven orthodox medical treatment.
Addressing a congregation of the Central Pentecost Church in Tepa, she bemoaned the increasing breast cancer cases in the country.
With the support of Delta Airlines, Dr Wiafe said they intend to intensify education, especially in the rural area this year.
Also, she said they will go on a tour with breast cancer survivors which she believes is an effective means of encouraging others to report early and fight stigma.
Dr Wiafe added that ignorance, an allusion to superstitious beliefs, and poverty account for the surge in cases especially in rural Ghana, making it compelling for increased awareness creation and free breast screening to prevent needless deaths.
Dignitaries at the event including the head pastor of the Tepa Central Pentecost Church, Frederick Asante-Lartey commended Delta Airlines for their support.
He called on other multinationals to collaborate with local entities like BCI to bring relief and to the poor and needy in society.
