Dr. Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama

The Technical Advisor to the Vice President, Dr Tiah Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, says Dr Mahamudu Bawumia's conduct is what has garnered him the massive support he is receiving from government appointees in his bid to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 election.

Dr Mahama rejected assertions that Dr Bawumia's privileged position and influence as the Vice President have been the basis for the support from government appointees.

According to him, Dr Bawumia has conducted himself extremely well in government and does not despise people who work with him.

Speaking to JoyNews on Tuesday, August 29, Dr Mahama said it is insulting for persons supporting the Vice President to be seen as not having a mind of their own.

"It is insulting for the government appointees for people to say that it is because they are appointees that is why they are supporting Dr Bawumia when other members of the government are supporting other candidates and no one is attributing it to any influence. So for me, if we want to be fair, we should be fair to all sides. But it would be demeaning and insulting to say that people are supporting Dr Bawumia because they are government appointees."

"Any advantage Dr Bawumia is getting from these appointees is based on how he has conducted himself and if he had not done so, I am sure many of these appointees wouldn’t have gone for him. So if there is any advantage he is getting, it is how he has carried himself in government that makes people believe that he is the best person to lead us into the future of the party."

Since Dr Bawumia announced his intention to contest for the party's flagbearer position, he has received a lot of support and endorsements from many government appointees.

Some even took their annual leaves to follow his campaign. Due to this, some Ghanaians and even party faithful attributed the support to his position as the Vice President, but Dr Mahama has rejected the views expressed.
