Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, running mate to Nana Akufo-Addo, presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, is set the hit northern Ghana this week.
He will be moving in the company of a contingent of revered Muslim leaders and party lieutenants in a two-pronged campaign effort.
In his entourage will also be the vociferous chiefs of the Nasara Club, poised to assist Bawumia to enhance the political fortunes by his presence on the turf among his own people in the three Northern regions.
That move forms the beginning of official campaign by the running mate amongst his own people in the three Northern regions.
According to sources close to the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Bawumia will engage in blitz campaign for one week before joining Nana Akufo-Addo in his Central-Western regions campaign.
NPP Head Office sources have confirmed the move, adding that the running mate will also meet several religious, social and traditional groups who have already expressed interest in meeting him to find out how they could be part of his campaign in the three Northern regions.
One NPP source revealed that he will be accompanied by Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, MP for Salaga, who is also expected to be launching his campaign very soon to retain the Salaga seat.
Regional Ministers and DCEs in the three Northern regions are expected to use their clout to facilitate his movement and interaction with all constituencies the running mate is supposed to be interacting with.
John Alan Kyerematen, who has pledged to support Bawumia in any way possible, and whose boys are already psyched into joining the campaign to sell Bawumia, will be among the contingent.
Bawumia, other party sources say, will meet Nana at a funeral at Ashanti Mampong before leaving for the North.
Nana Addo will return to the Central and Western region turfs, while Bawumia continues to the North for his maiden campaign. He will be accompanied by his Campaign Team together with the NPP's National Campaign Team to the Ashanti Mampong funeral.
Prominent traditional rulers Bawumia is expected to meet include Dagbon chiefs, the Navro-Pio and Bolga Na Ba, Martin Abilba.
He will also make whistle stops in all the three regions to reach out to chiefs along the way as well as youth associations and pressure groups.
There are indications that arrangements are well in place to receive him at the entry points of the regions with fanfare, including brass bands and other typical traditional music by various groups.
He will be selling himself politically, but will also be an ambassador and messenger of the vision of the January 2009 NPP administration, led by Nana Akufo-Addo, to make the three Northern regions the breadbasket of the sub-region and a hub of economic activity that would link the North to neighbouring Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Togo and other West African countries through modernised agriculture, expanded trade and agromanufacturing.
