Police in the Upper East Region have denied knowledge of any guerrilla training for some unemployed youth in the area.
Wednesday’s edition of the Ghanaian Observer newspaper has on its front page a report that some unemployed youth are being trained in combat, commando interventions and sabotage tactics by unidentified guerrilla masters.
Speaking to Joy News, the Upper East Regional Commander, ACP Bright Oduro said this has not come to the attention of his command, intimating also that there were similar rumours last year of a training camp which turned out to be false.
He assured residents that the police were seriously working towards establishing whether such a camp existed anywhere in the region.
“We don’t want to go out and say things we are not sure of,” ACP Bright Oduro said.
The National Security Advisor, Major General Nunoo Mensah also said government was working with the intelligence agencies to crack down on any such operation, if confirmed to be true.
