The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in Bawku, describing it as a threat to human life, property, and national unity.
In a statement issued on Saturday, April 26, the association stressed the urgent need for peace, reconciliation, and collective action to restore stability to Bawku.
The GBA commended the ongoing mediation efforts and reaffirmed the critical role of dialogue in resolving the protracted conflict. It particularly highlighted the involvement of traditional leaders, whose neutrality and moral authority continue to shape peace processes in the country.
“The Ghana Bar Association notes with deep concern the conflict in Bawku and recognises its devastating impact on lives, property, and national cohesion. We commend the urgent and genuine mediation efforts, emphasising the importance of peace, dialogue, and national unity,” the statement read.
The association also threw its full support behind the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and other eminent chiefs involved in the peace-building efforts. It also urged all parties in the conflict to cooperate fully with the mediation process and to respect its outcomes.
In addition, the association pledged to use its platform and influence to advocate for a peaceful resolution, stressing that it stands ready to support any constitutional and legal measures aimed at securing enduring peace in the area.
