The Minister of the Interior has renewed the curfew imposed on the Bawku Municipality, Gushiegu and their immediate environs.
The curfew, which takes immediate effect, was imposed on the advice of the Upper East and the Northern Regional Security Councils and by Executive Instrument.
A statement issued in Accra yesterday and signed by the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Dr Kwasi Apea-Kubi, said the curfew hours were from 12.00 midnight to 4 am each day.
“Government would like to appeal to all stakeholders including chiefs, elders and opinion leaders, to work towards peace by embracing the peace initiatives that have been embarked upon to foster harmony among the various factions," the statement said.
It advised the people to use dialogue as the best way to address their differences, since the absence of peace would continue to hamper the effective development of the areas.
It also appealed to the people to eschew the mistrust and bitterness that had stalled peace in the affected areas.
The statement reiterated that there was still a ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition or any offensive weapon in the Bawku municipality, Zabzugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi, Gushegu and their environs, adding, "Any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted."
