The majority caucus in the next parliament has nominated retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Joyce Bamford-Addo as the next Speaker of Parliament.
She would be the first woman in the history of the country to have taken the high office if approved by the House.
Justice Bamford-Addo resigned as Supreme Court Judge in 2003 following the elevation of her junior, Justice Kingsley Acquah to the position of Chief Justice.
Sources close to Joy News indicate that Doe Adjaho MP for Avenor Ave has also been nominated for the position of First Deputy Speaker.
Hon. Alban Bagbin is set to be the next majority leader.
The minority NPP is however yet to nominate the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
The next parliament will officially be sworn into office on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 when the President-elect, Prof. J.E.A. Mills is inaugurated into office.
