Bagbin cuts sod for construction of SD Dombo University stadium

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has cut the sod for the construction of a sports stadium at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in Wa.

The sod-cutting ceremony, held on Monday, 26th August at the university campus, was attended by former Black Stars players, including Stephen Appiah, Laryea Kingston, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sam Johnson, and several others.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Emmanuel K. Derbile hosted the team.

The project will be executed in three phases. The first phase will involve the construction of a 110×75m artificial pitch, installation of floodlights, and the erection of a fence.

The second phase will include the addition of running tracks, public washrooms, and changing rooms.

The final phase will see the construction of spectator stands, VIP stands, and a multipurpose court for other sports disciplines.

Robert Coleman, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Wembley Sports Construction Limited, the company contracted to build the facility, assured students that the project would be completed on schedule.

During the event, he presented a shirt to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Emmanuel K. Derbile, saying, "What we normally do is present a symbol of Wembley to signify our presence here."

He continued, "I would like to present this shirt to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel K. Derbile."
