The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sunyani West, Ignatius Baffuor Awuah has donated an ambulance worth GH¢25,000 to the Nsoatre Health Centre.
Prior to the donation, there was a float to outdoor the ambulance amid brass band music which brought activities in the town to a standstill.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Baffuor Awuah said quality healthcare delivery was his main priority, explaining that he had allocated over GH¢5,000 of his share of the common fund to pay for the bills of poor patients who are not registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He further indicated that he would construct staff bungalows at health centres in the constituency.
This, he noted, would go a long way to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
The MP however asked constituents not to politicize the ambulance since it was not meant for any particular group of people.
He called on the driver of the ambulance to always standby 24/7 because there can be emergency cases at any time.
He also appealed to the residents to use the ambulance to convey patients in an emergency situation.
The Sunyani West District Director of Health Services, Eva Ayi observed that the ambulance would help reduce avoidable deaths, especially maternal mortalities in the district, as pregnant women in labour would have easy access to ambulance services.
She therefore asked the managers of the centre to take good care of the facility through regular maintenance.
Speaking on behalf of the chiefs, the Akwamuhene of Nsoatre, Nana Asi Kwasi II applauded the MP for responding swiftly to their SOS call.
He called on other residents to help in diverse ways to develop the community.
Present at the ceremony were the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman, Abubakar Sadique, a Deputy Director of Health Service, Martha Agyinfra, officials of the hospital, chiefs and people of the community.
Later in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, the Medical Assistant in charge of the centre, Augustina Kaakuuro, commended the MP for the donation.
She however said the 6-bed health centre was in dire need of a toilet facility and called for support to construct it.
She said common ailments that are reported at the centre include malaria and skin diseases, stressing that staff are always ready to respond to the health needs of patients.
