The Brong Ahafo Presiding Members Association, has appealed to Government to rescind its decision to stop the Administrator of the Common Fund from deducting at source monies for the procurement of motorbikes for elected members in the region.
In a communiqué issued by 13 presiding members, who participated in the 2008 annual conference at Dormaa Ahenkro in Brong Ahafo, the association said it wished the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development would rather facilitate the process of the procurement as the noble objectives could not be over-emphasised.
The communiqué explained that the idea to purchase the motorbikes to enhance the mobility of the members was collectively accepted by all municipal and district assemblies for ratification in the region and not that it was mooted by the National Association of Local Government (NALAG) as was being speculated.
“If the Common Fund is for the development of the assemblies then it is important to use part of it to enhance the capability of members to enable them to render dedicated and efficient services to the electorate," the communiqué said.
It appealed to stakeholders in the motorbike procurement process to support rather than serve as impediments in its smooth implementation.
The conference discussed what the members could do in their respective Assemblies to ensure peace before, during and after the December polls.
